It is a simple random copolymer. To minimalize the risk, the reaction is commonly performed in a solvent as empirical industrial practice. The temperature is selected so that the heat load due to the heat of polymerization will essentially balance the reactor cooling capacity plus the sensible heat needed to raise the styrene from ambient temperature to polymerization temperature. Conversions, molecular weight averages, and molecular weight distributions were measured.
